Hand-foot syndrome, causes, prevention and relief

Chemo hand-foot syndrome, causes, prevention and relief:

Hand-foot syndrome is an inflammatory reaction caused by chemotherapy, which weakens the microvessels of the hands and feet.

It is located on the palms of the hands and the soles of the feet.

Depending on the stage of the disease, symptoms may include redness, skin sensitivity, tingling, burning sensation, blisters, cracks, swelling, and then the skin becomes extremely dry and flakes.

In the most advanced stage, everyday movements and walking become difficult.

Symptoms appear a few weeks after starting treatment.

Before starting chemo, I advise you:
  • Have a podiatrist remove any calluses that could potentially contribute to the appearance of this symptom.
  • To moisturize your skin well.

During chemo, I advise you:
  • Use refrigerated gloves and slippers during chemotherapy treatment.
  • Use a superfatted soap to thoroughly clean the affected areas.
  • Moisturize your skin well with a nourishing cream.
  • Apply the fire-resistant slate to the inflamed areas.
Hydratation de la main
To relieve redness, inflammation and burning sensation, fire slate is extremely effective.
It is thanks to its heat-conducting material that it will absorb inflammation, reduce redness and thus soothe your feet and hands.
