Protecting your nails during and after chemo

How to take care of your nails during chemo?

The treatments will weaken the nails and make them brittle. They may even fall out.

This is why:

Before starting chemotherapy, I advise you:

  • Cut your nails short to strengthen them.
  • Moisturize your hands and nails well.

During chemo I advise you:

  • To protect your nails from light
  • Use a silicon-enriched varnish with UVA/UVB protection.

If inflammation occurs in the nails, you can:

  • Apply a transcutaneous Hexomedine compress.
  • Apply colloidal silver to the damaged area.

Be careful, nails can remain fragile for a few months after chemo, so I advise you:

  • Continue to apply the varnish two to three months after chemo to continue strengthening them.
  • Consult a naturopath to strengthen your nails and encourage their regrowth.

As a preventative measure, you can use refrigerated gloves and slippers during chemotherapy treatments.
