Vomiting and nausea related to chemotherapy

Nausea and chemotherapy.

Nausea caused by treatments is unfortunately a very common side effect.

Today, anti-emetics are administered in chemotherapy protocols, but this is not always sufficient.

To help you, doctors often prescribe antiemetics such as Primpréran.

Advice:

You can reduce these symptoms with simple actions:

  • When you wake up before getting up you can eat a piece of apple for example.
  • When you wake up, drink a glass of warm water.
  • Divide meals into small quantities.
  • Avoid intake of quick sugars (e.g. jam).
  • Avoid sodas.
  • Avoid fruit juices, even freshly squeezed ones, as they are far too sweet and cause a spike in blood sugar.
  • Do not combine fruit juice and cereals (e.g. bread), this causes fermentation.
  • Avoid fried foods, saturated fats, processed foods and foods with sauces.
  • Chew well.
  • Hydrate with water (Vichy, Valse le temps des nauseas), drink water at room temperature in small sips.
  • Milk thistle teas can help your liver.

  • Depending on your health, it is often advisable to eat lighter meals the day before and on the day of chemo to help you cope better with it.

    Naturopath advice:

Apply a hot water bottle or heating pad to your liver area.

This will create vasodilation which helps support liver function.

The liver is an organ that likes heat (see the article pampering your liver in the blog section Click here).

It is common to hear borborygmi (gurgling sounds) which indicate the release of tension in the area.

Reflexology is a tool that brings real improvement to these symptoms.

It should be performed one to two days before chemo.

It allows an action on the transit and to rebalance the autonomic nervous system
